We are pleased to announce that Ventspils nafta terminals Ltd (VNT) has received the highest evaluation from experts as part of the Sustainability Index 2015. The terminal is one of three companies within Latvia ranked in the platinum category, thereby attesting to high performance in corporate responsibility and sustainability in five categories: strategy, work environment, market relations, environment and the society or local community.
"VNT invests financial resources and knowledge to improve labour safety and environmental protection. We have participated in the sustainability initiative for three years now and have since improved our rankings year-on-year. Im pleased to say that today we are one of three companies in Latvia whose efforts are being recognized with an award in the platinum category," says Managing Director of VNT, Lars Pantzlaff.
Moreover, VNT revealed three main strategic trajectories in its environmental policy: to constantly and carefully assess and analyse possible risks in order to ensure safe operations; to purposefully reduce the company's resource consumption, as well as to invest in environmental awareness.
The Sustainability Index is now in its sixth year in Latvia and the Institute for Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility, the Employers Confederation of Latvia, and the Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia are partners of the initiative.
The index is based on the most influential global indices, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and the Business in the Community CR Index. It takes into account the bar set by the corporate responsibility standard ISO 26000 and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G4. The index evaluates performance of companies in line with economic, social and environmental factors important for the country and at the same time it demonstrates an internationally recognised understanding within corporate responsibility and sustainability.
