Aim of the job

Ensuring the realisation of preventive and corrective maintenance, repairs and modifications to buildings, installations and equipment so that the technical operating resources for the terminal organisation are in good condition and continue to guarantee the continuity of the operational processes, with due regard for the rules and instructions applicable for this. Managing the M&R Department, both as regards own staff and contractors / third parties. Continuous development of a maintenance strategy for the terminal that is focussed on the future.

Organisational position

Directly under the Operations Manager and reports to this person. Manages the M&R Department and manages the work-related aspects of (contracted) third parties.

Result areas

Maintenance strategy

Drawing up (long-term) annual plans for technical maintenance, repairs and modifications to buildings, installations and equipment at several locations so that the technical operating resources remain in a good condition. Gathers and analyses a range of data that is important for this. Assesses proposals from technicians and audits undertaken. Discusses wishes and requirements with the competent authorities with regard to feasibility and tests the functionality of the proposed plans. Draws up (long-term) plans, including budgets and priorities and draws up planning schedules. Explains the plans and justifies these plans to Seaport Canaveral Management Team.

Management of M&R activities

Ensuring the execution of preventive and corrective maintenance, repairs and modifications to buildings, installations and equipment for Seaport Canaveral, so that the technical operating resources are in good condition and continue to guarantee the continuity of the operational processes. Discusses the planning and assignment of work for this daily with the E&I / M&R supervisors. Delegates authorities with regard to the performance of the relevant work. Discusses bottlenecks and takes action as required, contributes to solutions. Decides about the implementation of emergency repairs and is responsible for the correct completion of orders. Manages the M&R maintenance budget and reports progress, finances, etc to the Operations Manager.

Project management

Manages and controls maintenance projects, draws up project plans and planning schedules and ensures the timely and correct execution of projects. Manages a project team as required.

Development of personnel & coordination

Initiates action for defining individual personnel requirements, is aware of the required personnel capacity and makes proposals to adapt the existing staffing levels if required. Contributes to job application processes, provides induction for new members of staff, and undertakes staff absentee interviews and appraisals. Contributes to individual and team development of staff and makes proposals with regard to this.
Ensures regular departmental meetings and discusses personal performance with individual members of staff.

M&R organisation

Preserving and improving the maintenance organisation so that the execution of preventive and corrective maintenance remains guaranteed. For this he manages supplier relationships and acts as a point of contact for contracting third parties for terminal maintenance matters. Gathers information about the progress of work, bottlenecks, anomalies, agreements and the performance of suppliers / contractors. Periodically discusses work and performance of third parties and makes proposals to the Operations Manager with regard to contract continuation.

Planning & Financial control

Plans and monitors the annual budget, project budgets and future maintenance budgets. Is responsible for the financial contract management for contracted third parties and for ensuring periodic maintenance reports.

Social interaction

Training, transfer of knowledge and understanding to supervisors and staff, third party fitters, foremen and internal staff. Discusses and coordinates with the Operations Manager, Operations Department, Customer Service Manager and contractors about the execution of the work, contract agreements, performance, equipment and materials. Discusses commencement of work, progress, quality, results with supervisors and staff, Operations Manager, Operations Department and contractors. Discusses and explains bottlenecks and anomalies with and to the Operations Manager, contractors and Operations Department. Coordinates regularly with HSE Manager, Operations Department, Customer Service Manager, Finance&Control Manager and VTTI Group.
Also maintains external contact with the competent authorities, various government bodies, department of the Environment, local authority, provincial authority, inspection bodies and material suppliers.

Onerous conditions

Unidirectional posture and eye and neck muscle stress when working with computer screens. Performs tank inspections.
