Your role as Senior Project Manager

As a senior Project Manager you report to the Global Project Director. The first year you will be working in Zagreb, Croatia and after that for two years in Ploce, Croatia. Our project in Croatia is now scheduled to enter the FEED phase and is expected to move to the execution phase in Q1 2026.

The Project Manager leads and directs the project organization and is responsible for the successful development and execution of a medium scale oil storage project. The project scope includes the installation of new oil storage capacity, dedicated pumping and piping facilities providing segregation and increased logistical flexibility; and all required ancillary facilities. As such, the Project Manager will be accountable for the safety, quality, cost and schedule performance of the Project while preserving its business case and ensuring safe and reliable transition to operation of the facilities once commissioned. The ideal candidate has an extensive project management experience in both the front end and the execution phases. He/she has a strong background in both technical and business aspects, with proven skills in stakeholder management.

Your responsibilities

  • Deliver the Front End Engineering Design phase by working closely and effectively with the chosen engineering contractor
  • Develop comprehensive requisition packages and en-gage contractors through a structured tendering process.
  • Build a detailed class 2 cost estimate and a level 3 project schedule, integrating these elements into the overall robust project execution strategy you will develop to demonstrate that all risks to execution are sufficiently mitigated.
  • Drive project’s competitiveness by implementing Value Engineering practices as applicable, and minimize de-sign changes that can generate delays and/or cost im-pacts.
  • Closely coordinate with Business Development / Commercial and other representatives from Operations, and HSE departments to ensure alignment between business and project drivers, including permitting
  • Establish, staff and maintain a right-sized Project Management Team (PMT) with quality resources to success-fully deliver the project safely, efficiently and predictably.
  • Manage safety in all aspects (process & people) through-out project life cycle and instill a safety culture in the project environment.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate policy and compliance with the VTTI Project Management Framework driving rigorously the project through stage gate process.
  • Ensure adequate governance is in place for the project through Investment Committee Boards as well as individual projects Steer Cos and Governance Boards as needed.
  • Actively manage project risk register and convey project risks to stakeholders.
  • Ensure the safe execution, high quality work, on sched-ule completion and handover to Operations within the approved budget.
  • Provide assurance on project performance approving project procedures and project execution plans including the scope of work, deliverables list, master schedule, budget, org charts.
  • Ensure Change Management process is strictly followed to identify and approve modifications to scope, cost, schedule and quality.
  • Monitor adherence to schedule, cost and quality and pro-actively intervene to avoid slippage by putting in pace recovery plans when/as needed.
  • Provide comprehensive, concise and fully documented project closeout report, including key lessons learned, and areas of improvement

What we’re looking for

  • University degree (bachelors or masters) in Engineering or relevant discipline with combination of qualifications and experience.
  • Typically requires more than 10 years of broad and extensive project management experience in large projects (20 mil+)
  • A solid track record of project delivery performance in a highly agile environment.
  • Strong technical background with knowledge of engineering principles and contract management.
  • Deep understanding of project management stage gate processes and deliverables management.
  • Hands-on, inquisitive, resourceful.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Vast experience in stakeholder engagement, driving performance of a multi-disciplinary team, self-reflective and supportive.
  • A valid EU passport and the legal right to work in Croatia are required for this role.
  • Ideally, we are looking for someone who already lives in Croatia or nearby.
  • You must be willing to work in Croatia for a period of 2 to 3 years, on a rotation schedule of 3 months on and 2 weeks off.
